District Teams
WHAT IS DISTRICT FOOTBALL?
​
District football is the highest level of school football and a great opportunity for players to be recognised as the best in Newcastle. Staff from all the schools in the Newcastle District nominate their very best players to attend the district team trials. Once these trials have concluded, those picked to represent Newcastle compete against other districts from across Northumberland and the North East.

HOW DOES PLAYING FOR THE DISTRICT WORK?
​
All Boys/Girls picked to represent the district can continue to play for their Sunday league team or professional academy side if they play for one. Schools football takes place mainly on Saturday mornings and runs alongside Sunday league and academy football.
District football compliments Sunday league and academy football by providing children with the opportunity to play competitive football via English Schools’ FA competitions. It provides them the opportunity to play alongside their schoolmates, while representing the community in which they live.

IS MY CHILD ELIGIBLE TO PLAY FOR THE NEWCASTLE DISTRICT?
​
To be able to attend trials for any district team, a player must attend a school within that district. They must also be the correct age for the team in which they play. Currently, our district teams are for players from school years 5-10 only. See our list of schools here to see which schools are in the Newcastle district.

MY CHILD IS ELIGIBLE, HOW DO I GET INVOLVED?
​
We hold trials every year to build teams for the following season. The district football season follows the school academic year so trials usually take place before the school summer holidays or in early September so that the season can get underway as quickly as possible in September. The Association continues to make its presence felt in local county and ESFA Divisional Competitions and also provides a full programme of league, cup and small-sided competitions for its 18 affiliated secondary schools and 48 primary schools.

UNDER 11 GIRLS ( YEARS 5 & 6 )
Newcastle Under 11 Girls’ is chosen from over 40 Primary Schools affiliated to the Association. The teams play in three competitions- The North East District League, the Tyne and Wear MNDA Knockout Cup and the ESFA National Cup.
We play our matches mainly midweek with the odd Saturday thrown in and enjoy playing District sides across the country.
UNDER 11 ( YEARS 5 & 6 )
Newcastle Under 11 Representative Team is chosen from over 40 Primary Schools affiliated to the Association. The teams play in four competitions- The TUC League, the Harrison League, the Derwent and Medomsley Cup.
We play our matches mainly on Saturday along with an occasional fixture midweek and enjoy playing District sides sacrosanct the country.
UNDER 12 ( YEAR 7 )
Newcastle Under 12 Representative Teams is chosen from the 18 Secondary/Middle Schools affiliated to the Association. The team plays in two competitions- The Tyne and Wear District League for the John Pickworth Cup and the AF Hardy Knockout Cup.
We play our matches mainly on a Saturday along with an occasional fixture midweek and enjoy playing District sides across the country.
UNDER 13 GIRLS ( YEARS 7 & 8 )
The Newcastle Under 13 Girls’ Representative Team is chosen from the 16 Secondary/Middle Schools affiliated to the Association. The team plays in the Tyne and Wear League.
All matches are played midweek and they enjoy playing District sides across the country.
UNDER 13 ( YEAR 8 )
Newcastle Under 13 Representative Team which is chosen from the 18 Secondary/Middle Schools affiliated to the Association. The teams play in four competitions- The Tyne and Wear League, the Hartlepool Hospitals Cup, the Northumberland County Cup and the ESFA National Cup..
We play our matches mainly on a Saturday along with an occasional fixture midweek and enjoy playing District sides across the country.
UNDER 14 ( YEAR 9 )
Newcastle Under 14 Representative Team which is chosen from the 15 Secondary Schools affiliated to the Association. The teams play in three competitions- The Tyne and Wear League, the South Tyneside Centenary Cup and the Northumberland County Cup.
We play our matches mainly on a Saturday along with an occasional fixture midweek and enjoy playing District sides across the country.
UNDER 15 GIRLS ( YEARS 9 & 10 )
The Newcastle Under 15 Girls’ Representative Team is chosen from the 14 Secondary Schools affiliated to the Association. The team plays in the Tyne and Wear League.
All matches are played midweek and they enjoy playing District sides across the country.
UNDER 15 ( YEARS 10 )
Newcastle Under 15 Representative Team which is chosen from the 16 Secondary Schools affiliated to the Association. The teams play in four competitions- The Tyne and Wear League, the Sunderland Children’s Hospitals Cup, the Northumberland County Cup and the ESFA National Cup..
We play our matches mainly on a Saturday along with an occasional fixture midweek and enjoy playing District sides across the country.
