Honorary Secretary's Annual Report
Secretary’s Report 2022-2023
Newcastle Schools Football Association AGM
22nd June
Benfield
It has been a very successful season of football for Newcastle SFA this season with so much football taking place for boys and girls of all ages. Newcastle offer far more than most in terms of inter school football and this is down to the hard work of staff in schools.
Once again, one man has been instrumental in all of this success. Without Ian Beck this would not happen. Ian does everything for intra-school football across the city and without his hard work, commitment and dedication, literally thousands of children would not have the experiences that they do.

We had some very successful national cup runs from schools within Newcastle this year. Walker Year 9’s, St Cuthbert’s Year 11’s and St Teresa’s Primary all reached the latter stages of national competitions.
A big thank you must go out again to all of the teachers who continue to give up their free time to give children these opportunities.
District Football
Boys Football
Under 11 (Team manager Mark Christie) The under 11 side have had another excellent season. They won the Richard Jordan Memorial Trophy, winning the top group in the Tyne and Wear league.
Under 12 (Team manager Ian Dodd) The under 12 side had an excellent season, winning 6 out of 7 league games, finishing second. However, they won the Inter Association Cup.
Under 13 (Team manager Liam Noble) The Under 13 side had a good season under new management. They had some excellent results and improved as the season progressed. The lost to North Tyneside in the Currey Cup final.
Under 14 (Team manager Kevin Drinkeld) The under 14s had a good season, slightly held back due to the success of the Northumberland County team which featured 12 of the Newcastle SFA squad. They progressed to the quarter finals of the national cup losing to a strong Stockport team. Through no lack of effort from Kevin, they were unable to fulfil all league fixtures. They beat North Tyneside to win the Johnson Cup.
Under 15 (Team managers Simon Coulson/Neil Jones) Simon and Neil finished their four years with the side in style, winning the Tyne and Wear league. They beat Redcar and Cleveland in the semi final play off and got revenge in the final, beating North Tyneside after losing the Young Cup Final to the same opponents.
Girls Football
Under 11 (Team Manager Michael Moran) Another successful season at Under 11 for the team. They finished 3rd in the league but could have quite easily won it. They did however win the Knockout Cup. They did well in the national cup, progressing to round 3 where they lost to a strong Liverpool side.
Under 13 (Team Manager Peter Ewart) The team’s attitude, behaviour and attitude were excellent throughout the season, they were a credit to their schools. Even though they finished 5th in the league, every game was close and they could have gone either way.
Under 15 Girls (Team Manager Daniel Thompson/Peter Ewart) Despite suffering lots of injuries and illnesses during the season, the girls finished third in the league. This was despite facing some superb teams littered with RTC players.
Looking ahead to next season, managers have been appointed for all of the boy’s teams. The Under 11 and Under 13 girls both have team managers but we do require a team manger for the Under 15 side.
Trials have already started for some teams and we are very hopeful of a successful season next year.
Once again, thank you to everyone for all of their continued hard work.
Enjoy the summer!
Best Wishes,
Kevin Hodgson
